The Wenchang Space Launch Center (or “Wenchang” for short) is China’s southernmost launch site, situated on the North-East of the island of Hainan (within the municipality of the city of… Wenchang). The launch site was approved in 2007, construction began and 2009, and the inaugural launch took place in 2016 with the successful lift-off of the Long March 7.

The Wenchang Space Launch Center is currently being expanded for the commercial launch business (Long March 8, launch startup rockets) and for deep space exploration (Long March 5DY, Long March 5ZRL, Long March 9).

 Compared to China’s 3 other launch centers, Wenchang has two major advantages:

• Its coastal location avoids (suborbital) rocket debris coming back down on Chinese inland villages, et enables the operation of larger rockets due to parts being transported by sea rather than by rail.
• Its southern location (latitude: 19.6°N) enables an additional boost for geostationary satellites due to the closer proximity with the Equator.

Wenchang is known for its beautiful white sand beaches and tropical scenery, which is something that we have represented in our design. For space enthusiasts, this is central to Wenchang launches as some of the best viewing points are from the beaches of Longlou, opposite of the Wenchang Launch site.

The rocket in the design is China’s largest rocket, the iconic Long March 5, which launches exclusively from Wenchang. The rocket plume is a checkered motif, a reference to the omnipresence of this pattern on Chinese rockets and launch-related infrastructure. This checkered design not only serves an esthetic purpose, but also a technical one: it is reported to help with optical tracking during launch. We've reimagined this pattern as the pathway explored by each historic mission.

Our T-Shirt is 90% combed and ring-spun cotton, 10% polyester, providing a soft and light feel with just the right amount of stretch. The fabric weight is 153 g/m² (4.2 oz/yd²). It's unisex and is comfortable & flattering for kinds of profiles. The double stitching on the neckline and sleeves add more durability to what is sure to be a favorite! Our t-shirts are pre-shrunk and quarter-turned to avoid creases down the center.
